Mocking the Fathers. Notes on Guittone d’Arezzo’s Figlio mio dilettoso

Abstract

This study revisits the interpretive history of the tenson between Guido
Guinizelli ([O] caro padre meo) and Guittone d’Arezzo (Figlio mio dilettoso). It especially deals with the second of these two sonnets. A rather new interpretation of Guittone’s poem is proposed, which bears potential hermeneutic implications related to Canto XXVI of Dante’s Purgatorio
