The Science through letters: Foreigners Shepherds in Arcadia

Abstract

From the very beginning of its history, many poets joined the original members of the Accademia dell’Arcadia. As a result, the Academy spread soon throughout Italy and Europe. Many of the foreigners Shepherds where unable to reach Rome, so they began to send their contributions by letter. This article offers a short overview of the correspondence in verses of the early years of the Academy and focuses on scientific poetry, in order to study the connections between the surviving papers and the prints of the Academy, in which the most successful texts were published.
