Abstract

The essay offers a study of the printed tradition of the Ciento novelle antike (One Hundred Ancient tales), focusing in particular on the editio princeps published in Bologna in 1525 under the editorial supervision of Carlo Gualteruzzi. The article investigates the relationship between this important edition – which consists of the ms. Vat. Lat. 3214 and the so-called vulgata of the Novellino – and a reprint of this text without a colophon. Finally, a detailed analyis of the critical apparatus of the latest modern edition by Alberto Conte shows that he most likely used a copy of the undated reprint for his collation, erroneously confusing it with the princeps.
