Abstract
In the dedication of the Prince, Machiavelli underlines two sources of his political thought: the knowledge of history and the practical experience as politician and diplomatic. The aim of this paper is to explore as the fifteen years of work as responsible of the second chancery of Florentine Republic affect Machiavellian thought and his literary style.
