Abstract
In 1873 Giosuè Carducci published his fourth collection of poems, Nuove poesie, which included political ‘giambi’, love poems, autobiographical lyrics and translations of German poets of the early Nineteenth century. This article has two main objectives. The first one is to reconstruct the formation and the editorial history of this collection, re-examining the archive materials (autographs, prints, proofs) conserved in Casa Carducci. The second aim is to provide an overall interpretation of Nuove poesie, drawing attention to their importance in Carducci’s poetical itinerary and in the history of Italian literature.
